The Boya BY-MM3 is an entry-level stereo microphone that is well-suited for creating YouTube videos on a budget. It performed adequately on a Canon camera, recording both left and right audio channels. However, when tested on a Samsung A70 smartphone, it only recorded mono sound due to limitations of the phone itself.
The BY-MM3 records sound in all directions, so it sounds equally good whether you are standing in front of or behind the camera. However, it can be susceptible to wind noise, and the buffeting sounds can be annoying when they are recorded along with your voice. The windsock (also known as a deadcat) is a bit too tight of a fit, and I damaged one of the wire cages protecting the mics when I was trying to put it on.
Overall, the BY-MM3 is a good microphone for the price. It is affordable and performs well on most cameras. However, if you are planning on using it in windy conditions, you may want to consider a different microphone with a larger windsock.
